APMEX vs JM Bullion: how the two compare when you pay in crypto
APMEX and JM Bullion both charge crypto buyers 3% less than their card price, and both run payment through a BitPay invoice that expires after 15 minutes. The split comes after checkout. APMEX ships to 33 countries but stops accepting crypto above $400,000 in a week. JM Bullion takes up to $2,000,000 in crypto on one order, delivers only to US addresses, and verifies your identity once your Bitcoin order passes $3,000.

APMEX's written terms vs its listed prices
Two of APMEX's help pages describe its crypto pricing in ways its product pages don't bear out, so we print the prices and flag the wording.
Discount. A tooltip above each APMEX price grid states that crypto paid through BitPay carries a 3.0% cash discount, and today's Gold Eagle numbers fit it to the cent. Its payment FAQ, though, lists Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash next to cards and PayPal as the methods that miss the 4% discount, and mentions no smaller crypto reduction. The general buying FAQ leaves Bitcoin off that list entirely.
Payment changes. The buying FAQ tells customers APMEX "can make some changes, such as changing a payment method." The payment FAQ rules that out for crypto orders, except when the payment fails validation.
Overseas minimum. The $250 floor for orders leaving the US is written for card, Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. For APMEX's 13 other tokens the rule is unknown.
JM Bullion's payments page gives one crypto figure, 3% against card and PayPal, and its other help pages we read today don't contradict it.
Gold Eagle prices on October 22
These are listed single-coin prices for the random-year 1 oz Gold Eagle on October 22, 2026, read in a browser at 4:16 PM MST (JM Bullion) and 4:17 PM MST (APMEX), before sales tax. A single coin is above both dealers' $199 free-delivery threshold.
| Payment | APMEX (BU), read 4:17 PM MST | JM Bullion, read 4:16 PM MST | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check or wire | $4,257.79 | $4,252.06 | JM $5.73 lower |
| Crypto | $4,302.14 | $4,296.35 | JM $5.79 lower |
| Card or PayPal | $4,435.20 | $4,429.23 | JM $5.97 lower |
Both coins were read in a browser about a minute apart. JM Bullion listed the coin $5.79 (0.13%) lower in crypto, and the gap is the same 0.13% for every payment method, so the method doesn't change who is cheaper. Each dealer priced crypto 3.0% under its card price (APMEX $133.06, JM $132.88) and about 1.0% over check or wire (APMEX $44.35, JM $44.29). A $6 gap on a $4,300 coin is small, and listed prices change through the day, so compare both carts before paying.
At an earlier read the same morning (9:09 AM MST), buying 10 to 19 coins at APMEX lowered each price by $5 ($4,318.41 in crypto), and 100 or more brought crypto to $4,308.31 a coin. We didn't record JM's quantity tiers. Our older paired reading, from October 20, 2026, had APMEX's crypto price $8.92 above JM's; gold has fallen since, so it says nothing about today.

Paying the invoice, and other methods
BitPay's invoice needs the exact amount. APMEX warns that many wallets lack full support for BitPay's payment protocol, which makes it easy to send an incorrect amount or to the wrong place, and points buyers to BitPay's list of compatible wallets. JM Bullion says a crypto payment can take up to one business day to arrive and clears on receipt; after that it prepares the package and posts tracking in your account. Guests can check out at JM without registering. APMEX accepts payment only in US dollars, which in practice means it quotes and refunds in dollars even when you pay in a token.
Bank transfers are capped at JM Bullion: $100,000 for checks and eChecks, and $500 to $1,000,000 by wire (its card and pay-later limits are on our JM Bullion vs SD Bullion page). APMEX sets no maximum on domestic orders but asks buyers above $500,000 to call its sales desk about a possible deposit. Its eCheck orders wait four to five business days after the payment clears before they ship. Abroad, APMEX's wire minimum is $1,500 and card orders stop at $25,000 per transaction.
Cancelling at APMEX can be expensive. If the metal price has moved against APMEX when you cancel, it bills the market loss plus a fee of the greater of $50 or 5% of the order. You can settle by card at once or within 30 days of an invoice, but not with Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash. JM Bullion's payments page mentions a Market Loss Policy for check and wire orders without giving figures.
Where each wins
- APMEX: delivery outside the US, and three tokens JM doesn't name: Shiba Inu (SHIB), ApeCoin (APE) and Circle's euro coin (EUROC). It publishes no crypto-specific ID requirement.
- JM Bullion: order size. Its $2,000,000 per-order ceiling is five times APMEX's weekly crypto cap, and it names Ripple (XRP), which APMEX doesn't list. Both name Polygon, under different tickers (MATIC at APMEX, POL at JM), so check which one the invoice offers.
- Even: the 3% crypto discount, the 4% bank discount, BitPay with a 15-minute window, and free US shipping from $199.
- Price: JM Bullion, narrowly. At 4:16 to 4:17 PM MST on October 22 its Gold Eagle cost $5.79 less in crypto than APMEX's, about 0.13%.
Choose APMEX if / pick JM Bullion if
Choose APMEX if you live in one of its 33 shipping countries, want to pay in a euro stablecoin (EUROC) or a token such as SHIB or APE, plan to buy 10 or more of a coin and want its published quantity breaks, or would rather skip BitPay's identity step on orders between $3,000 and $400,000. Check the international minimum before paying with anything other than card, Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash.
Pick JM Bullion if a single crypto order runs past $400,000, if you hold XRP, if you'd like to check out as a guest, or if you want refunds handled in crypto. Expect to show ID once above $3,000, and you'll need a US delivery address.
Paying by check or wire costs about one point less than crypto at both, if you're set on the lowest total.
Frequently asked questions
Do APMEX and JM Bullion give the same crypto discount?
On listed prices, yes: both put crypto 3% under card and bank payments 4% under card. JM Bullion states that on its payments page. APMEX's product pages show it, but its payment FAQ reads as if Bitcoin gets no discount, so check the invoice total.
Which one ships gold bought with crypto outside the US?
APMEX's international page names 33 destination countries, and any import charges fall on the recipient at the door. JM Bullion delivers only to US addresses, P.O. boxes and APO addresses, and not to US territories.
Can I pay APMEX or JM Bullion in XRP or EUROC?
XRP works only at JM Bullion, and EUROC only at APMEX. Both take BTC, BCH, ETH, WBTC, DOGE, LTC, USDC, USDP (JM still calls it PAX), GUSD, DAI, BUSD and Polygon, which APMEX lists as MATIC and JM as POL.
