SD Bullion alternatives for crypto buyers: 5 dealers, one gap each

The SD Bullion alternatives for crypto buyers on this page are JM Bullion, APMEX, BGASC, Kitco and Bullion Standard. Each one covers a specific gap in SD Bullion's crypto checkout: a written discount that names only Bitcoin, a coin list SD Bullion doesn't publish, a $250,000 Bitcoin cap printed on the same page as a wire-only rule for orders over $20,000, and no bank wire at all on orders under $2,500.

SD Bullion is still a fair place to pay with Bitcoin. In a same-window browser read on October 27, 2026 between 10:07 and 10:09 AM MST, SD Bullion's 1 oz American Gold Eagle listed at $4,244.49 in its Bitcoin column, 3.03% under its card price and 1.01% over its check/wire price. SD Bullion says Bitcoin funds "typically process with 24 business hours" and its site banner offers free shipping on $199+ orders. If SD Bullion's terms fit your order, you don't need an alternative. The five dealers below are for the orders where they don't.

What SD Bullion's payment page says, line by line

SD Bullion's Payment & Pricing page (read October 27, 2026) lists these rules. We quote them because two of them disagree.

SD Bullion rule Exact wording on SD Bullion's page
Bitcoin cap "accepted for orders up to $250,000 USD"
Bitcoin and the cash discount "Bitcoin is not eligible for the 1% cash discount"
Time to pay "you will ONLY have 15 minutes after you submit your order to pay"
Large orders "Bank wire is the only method of payment accepted for orders greater than $20,000"
Small orders "Orders under $2,500.00 will not have this payment method [bank wire] as an option"
e-Check "accepted for all customers up to $10,000. e-Checks are eligible for the 4% price discount"
Card "accepted for orders up to $5,000 USD"
Buyers abroad "International customers can pay for orders via Credit Card, Bitpay, or Bank Wire"
ID "Additional documentation is sometimes required to confirm identity"

The conflict: SD Bullion's Bitcoin line allows $250,000, and the bank wire line on the same page says wire is the only accepted method above $20,000. SD Bullion's page doesn't say which rule wins for a $50,000 Bitcoin order. If your order is over $20,000, confirm with SD Bullion before you lock the price, because a locked order "cannot be canceled without penalty" under the same page.

SD Bullion's written discount covers Bitcoin by name. SD Bullion's Bitcoin guide says "SD Bullion currently offers Bitcoin customers a 3% discount on our credit/debit card price on all orders", and SD Bullion's product tables label the column "Bitcoin". SD Bullion runs crypto through BitPay, which handles more coins, but SD Bullion doesn't publish which ones it has switched on. Whether an Ethereum or USDC payment gets the Bitcoin column price at SD Bullion is unknown until the BitPay invoice shows the total.

One Gold Eagle at each dealer, same read window

We read each dealer's 1 oz American Gold Eagle product page in one browser session between 10:07 and 10:09 AM MST on October 27, 2026. Quantity 1, lowest visible tier for that qty, before tax and shipping. Per-row clocks were not captured, so every row shares that window. The crypto column keeps each dealer's own label.

Dealer Check / wire Crypto (dealer's label) Card / PayPal Crypto vs wire Crypto vs card
SD Bullion $4,202.05 $4,244.49 ("Bitcoin") $4,377.14 +$42.44 (+1.01%) -$132.65 (-3.03%)
Kitco $4,214.10 $4,256.67 ("Bitcoin") $4,389.69 +$42.57 (+1.01%) -$133.02 (-3.03%)
Bullion Standard $4,230.61 $4,318.75 ("Crypto") $4,406.88 +$88.14 (+2.08%) -$88.13 (-2.00%)
BGASC $4,254.56 ("Cash Discount") $4,298.88 ("Crypto Discount") $4,431.83 ("Retail") +$44.32 (+1.04%) -$132.95 (-3.00%)
JM Bullion $4,286.24 $4,330.89 ("Crypto") $4,464.83 +$44.65 (+1.04%) -$133.94 (-3.00%)
APMEX $4,294.69 $4,339.43 ("Crypto") $4,473.64 +$44.74 (+1.04%) -$134.21 (-3.00%)

SD Bullion had the lowest Gold Eagle crypto price of the six in that window. Coin prices at every dealer move with the gold price through the day, so the dollar gap between dealers is a snapshot. The gap between a dealer's own three columns is steadier: SD Bullion, Kitco, JM Bullion, APMEX and BGASC each priced crypto about 1 point over cash/wire and 3 points under retail/card, and Bullion Standard priced it 2.00% under card.

BGASC's product page text had no column headers visible in the Oct 27 browser capture. A Wayback snapshot of the same product URL (2026-06-07) shows the three column tooltips in order: Cash Discount Price, Crypto Discount Price, Retail Price. The Oct 27 figures $4,254.56 / $4,298.88 / $4,431.83 match that order (crypto 3.00% under retail, cash 4.00% under retail).

JM Bullion: for crypto orders SD Bullion's limits don't cover

JM Bullion's payments page (read October 27, 2026) lists crypto with "a $0 order minimum and a $2,000,000 order maximum" and "a 3% discount over credit/debit card and PayPal orders". JM Bullion has no rule pushing large orders to wire, so a crypto buyer above SD Bullion's $20,000 wire line has one clear set of terms at JM Bullion. JM Bullion gives the same 15 minutes to pay and says "we convert all crypto payments instantly to USD". JM Bullion asks every crypto buyer for name, billing address, phone number and shipping address. JM Bullion ships to US addresses only (our dealer records, checked October 26, 2026). In today's window JM Bullion's Gold Eagle crypto price was $4,330.89, 3.00% under card. JM Bullion and SD Bullion head to head: JM Bullion vs SD Bullion.

APMEX: for buyers outside the US who want the coin list in writing

APMEX's Bitcoin FAQ (read October 27, 2026) says "Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Etherium payments qualify for a 3.0% discount" and "orders exceeding $400,000 (USD) per week are not accepted". APMEX ships to a list of select countries (33 on our APMEX alternatives page, read October 21, 2026), with a $250 minimum abroad for card and Bitcoin orders (our dealer records, checked October 26, 2026). APMEX's Gold Eagle crypto price was 3.00% under card in today's window ($4,339.43).

One open question stays open: GoldVetted's APMEX vs JM Bullion comparison (retrieved October 26, 2026) says APMEX "charges crypto buyers the full list price", while APMEX's own FAQ and product tables show 3.0% off. We haven't paid an APMEX invoice to settle it. Check the total on the BitPay invoice before you send.

BGASC: for a written crypto discount that covers more than Bitcoin

BGASC's payments page (read October 27, 2026) lists "Crypto, Orders $0-$250,000, 3% Crypto Discount". Its 4% cash discount is split by method: Bank Wire orders $1,000-$250,000; ACH/eCheck orders $0-$100,000; Personal Check, Cashier's Check and Money Orders each $0-$75,000. BGASC has the same $250,000 crypto ceiling as SD Bullion's Bitcoin line, without a separate rule sending orders over $20,000 to wire, and BGASC's discount is written for crypto, not for Bitcoin by name. BGASC's Gold Eagle crypto price in today's window was $4,298.88, 3.00% under retail. BGASC is owned by JM Bullion; the ownership details are on our JM Bullion alternatives page.

Kitco: for paying Bitcoin into Canada

Kitco's payments FAQ (read October 27, 2026) lists Bitcoin with a $10,000 limit and notes that "the purchase limit indicated is applicable to first-time buyers", with an option to contact Kitco to raise it. Kitco asks for "one payment per order". Kitco accepts Bitcoin only. Kitco ships to the US, Canada and international addresses, though some listings say "Currently Available in the US only".

Kitco shows this banner on both its gold coins page and the Gold Eagle product page: "$5,000 minimum on physical bullion orders - so we can keep delivering the same great service! Learn more". The product page also says "Free Shipping on bullion orders over $4,999 USD/CAD". Kitco's payments FAQ doesn't repeat the $5,000 minimum, so check the cart before you plan a small order. Kitco's Gold Eagle Bitcoin price in today's window was $4,256.67, 3.03% under card.

Bullion Standard: for paying over Lightning

Bullion Standard's FAQ (read October 27, 2026) lists Bitcoin through BitPay as "on-chain, off-chain with Coinbase, and Lightning", the only Lightning mention among the dealers we track. Bullion Standard caps BitPay payments at $100,000. Bullion Standard's FAQ says "All cryptocurrency orders at Bullion Standard qualify for a 3% discount from an item's full list price", but Bullion Standard's Gold Eagle table in today's window showed crypto at $4,318.75, which is 2.00% under card. Price your order from the table, not the FAQ.
